Satyricon: Feel the flavor of the best Mediterranean seafood in town

Satyricon is considered the best seafood restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. Expensive and very elegant, this old-school place offers an Italian menu. As an appetizer, try the sea food tasting one: oysters, tuna, salmon, lobster, mussels and crab served on a layer of ice. Simply gorgeous. The house specialty is the pargo, baked fish crusted in salt. Among wines our favorite is the white Talinay from Chile. While you eat, have a look to the guests: it is very likely that a VIP is seated just beside you. Suggested dress code: chic.

  • Galitos Grill: Taste the best and cheapest grilled chicken in town

Galitos Grill: Taste the best and cheapest grilled chicken in town

‘Galitos grill’ offers you the best, and particularly cheap, Galito na brasa (grilled chicken) of Rio. It’s the perfect place for a healthy and tasty lunch. The service is not perfect, but the quality is super and it’s quiet affordable. We like it. This is for sure a very Carioca place. Not a lot of Gringos are around there. I really enjoyed the speciality, the galeto na brasa with tapioca and rice, and I’ve also appreciated  the chicken nuggets (not the healthiest food ever, but they were great!). There are three restaurants Galitos Grill spread over the city: Ipanema, Copacabana and Leblon. Don’t miss the best grilled chicken in town and feel like a local!

Armazēm Café: Take a break with a good Brazilian coffee

In Portuguese “armazém” means grocery store, and this chain of grocery stores is entirely dedicated to Brazilian Arabica coffee. With stores in Ipanema, Leblon and Centro, Armazēm Café wants to transform the typical Carioca habit of cafesinho in a sophisticated tasting (the slogan is “Coffee tasting of coffee”). Ask for an Italian-style espresso at the counter (it is served with a delicious pastry) or buy pure Brazilian coffee in its many versions. Enjoy an Irish coffee, a cappuccino or a coffee milkshake, and think to the broad Brazilian coffee plantations where all began.

  • Osklen: The coolest sport apparel brand in Brazil

Osklen: The coolest sport apparel brand in Brazil

Osklen is just the coolest sport apparel brand in Brazil. It is quiet well known also abroad, but still for the fashion addicted customer. Once in Rio don’t miss to grab at least their trunks. Even if it’s quiet expensive, they have cool shops and, overall, it worths a visit. And we also like their politically correct behavior in the city (they take care of some green zone here and there).

  • Livraria da Travessa: Photo books & culture

Livraria da Travessa: Photo books & culture

It was 1975 when the Cariocas get this bookstore whose name appeared to be a curious vague allusion to the Cold War, Sartre, or the military dictatorship: Wall (Travessa). Right in the middle of Ipanema, the stronghold memory of bossa nova (with Vinicius and Tom still present), the scene of political activism, fashion, avant-garde art and counterculture, was there, and Travessa was elected as meeting place for the political discussion. The poets of the so called ‘poesia marginal’ made it their special place for recitals and performances. Their handmade books circulated only there (pure rarities nowdays). The Travessa libraries are spread all over the city; the one located in Ipanema and Leblon also feature an extremely pleasant café, with some good cold dish (the carpaccio is pretty good).

    ¡Venga!: Share a Spanish-style tapa with friends

¡Venga! is the first Tapas bar of Rio de Janeiro, featuring a typical Spanish food. The first ¡Venga! has been opened in 2009, and it became immediately a hotspot in the Rio culinary scenario.
The idea was to connect the carioca spirit with the culture of Tapas, one of the most social way to eat. Tapa means sharing small portions of food with family and friends.
Moreover, the chance to try various options in the same time make the Tapas one of the most eclectic dining experiences.

  • Capricciosa: Another option for Pizza lovers

Capricciosa: Another option for Pizza lovers

A popular (and quite expensive) place to eat D.O.C. Italian pizza in Rio. Ingredients are authentic (olive oil included) and pizza makers really expert. You can see them throwing up the dough in the air and catching it in midair, with a very Italian ability. Of course pizzas are cooked in wood stovesPrices can be disappointing for a westerner (a pizza costs about 25 €): that’s because in Brazil pizza is considered a sophisticated meal, with a lot of imported ingredients – and also because Capricciosa is a very trendy restaurant.

Capricciosa also does deliveries in Zona Sul and São Conrado (Monday to Saturday from 7.00 pm – Sunday from 6.00 pm).
