Toca do Siri: Don’t miss the specialities from Bahia & the best crab ever

A paradise to the ones who love crab: Toca do Siri – Boteco Baiano is a great botequim offering traditional specialities from Bahia. Here is our perfect lunch: moqueca de siri (stuffed crab) and fish soup. Simply outstanding. Have a seat on the lovely terrace also for a caipirinha at sunset: the atmosphere is lively and charming, especially on weekends, when the area is close to traffic. Don’t miss this place for no reason in the world.

  • Galitos Grill: Taste the best and cheapest grilled chicken in town

Galitos Grill: Taste the best and cheapest grilled chicken in town

‘Galitos grill’ offers you the best, and particularly cheap, Galito na brasa (grilled chicken) of Rio. It’s the perfect place for a healthy and tasty lunch. The service is not perfect, but the quality is super and it’s quiet affordable. We like it. This is for sure a very Carioca place. Not a lot of Gringos are around there. I really enjoyed the speciality, the galeto na brasa with tapioca and rice, and I’ve also appreciated  the chicken nuggets (not the healthiest food ever, but they were great!). There are three restaurants Galitos Grill spread over the city: Ipanema, Copacabana and Leblon. Don’t miss the best grilled chicken in town and feel like a local!

  • Copacabana Beach: The most famous beach in the world

Copacabana Beach: The most famous beach in the world

Considered one of the most famous beaches in the world, Praia de Copacabana is nicknamed the “Little Princess of the Sea”. Its ancient name Tupi was Sacopenapã: “the sound and the flapping wings of the herons” and its golden age was the 30’s through the 50’s, when Copacabana Palace was the meeting pont of international jet-setters. The 4 km sandy beach, stretching from Posto 2 (lifeguard watchtower 2) to Posto 6 (lifeguard watchtower 6), is bordered by two historic forts: Fort Copacabana (1914) and Fort Duque de Caxias (1779). Along the beach runs the well-known promenade representing ocean waves (designed by the Brazilian architect Roberto Burle Marx and achieved in 1970). Have a coconut water at one of the many kiosks and enjoy the wonderful view of Rio bay. Enjoy the bicycle lane skirting the beach, rent a sun umbrella and, if you wish, have a swim (but the water here is not the best: Copacabana is closer than Ipanema to the bay). Come here in weekends, when Avenida Atlântica is closed to traffic and Cariocas enjoy the promenade by bike, skate or rollerblades. This is also the place to be at New Year’s Day, when more than 2.000.000 people gather here to party (twice as many than there were on February the 18th 2006, when the Rolling Stones had their legendary concert in Rio).

  • Capricciosa: Another option for Pizza lovers

Capricciosa: Another option for Pizza lovers

A popular (and quite expensive) place to eat D.O.C. Italian pizza in Rio. Ingredients are authentic (olive oil included) and pizza makers really expert. You can see them throwing up the dough in the air and catching it in midair, with a very Italian ability. Of course pizzas are cooked in wood stovesPrices can be disappointing for a westerner (a pizza costs about 25 €): that’s because in Brazil pizza is considered a sophisticated meal, with a lot of imported ingredients – and also because Capricciosa is a very trendy restaurant.

Capricciosa also does deliveries in Zona Sul and São Conrado (Monday to Saturday from 7.00 pm – Sunday from 6.00 pm).

  • Copacabana Palace: Have a drink at the luxury swimming pool of this legendary hotel

Copacabana Palace: Have a drink at the luxury swimming pool of this legendary hotel

Copacabana Palace passed into legend as the first luxury Hotel in South America. With its 1920s white neo-classical façade, it opened in 1923, becoming soon after the temple of the roaring 20s in Rio, when gambling was legal in Brazil. Designed by the French architect Joseph Gire, it is now a very expensive hotel ideal for a drink. Take a caipirinha at the lavish bar of the swimming pool and think that before you a lot of celebrities did the same. For exemple Marilyn Monroe, Nelson Mandela, Madonna, Walt Disney, Rolling Stones, Rita Hayworth, Brigitte Bardot, Michael Jackson, Diana and Luciano Pavarotti.
